Previously an Elementary School, Saints Mary and Mathias Catholic School (SsMMCS) expanded its educational curriculum to include Grades 6, 7, & 8, in 2016. Although the Muscatine Community School District (MCSD) has put 6th grade students back in the Elementary schools, because of our smaller size, we have been able to continue giving our 6th graders the Middle School experience. It should be noted that the SsMMC Middle School is not only an option for those students previously enrolled in our Elementary School, but also an option for any student in the Muscatine area. Additionally, as with MCSD Food Service and Transportation, SsMMC Middle School students are eligible to participate in Muscatine Community School District Sports, Band/Orchestra and Theatrical opportunities.
SsMMC Middle School students are challenged academically as well as through a variety of platforms. We have differentiated Math and Reading instruction, Art Club, Student Council, and an 8th grade Internship program. Classroom courses are creatively enriched with elective exploratory classes such as cooking and personal finances. Through the course of middle school, we feel that community service continues to be an important tool for the development of the well-rounded, civic minded individual, and we encourage the acquisition of such ideas. We will honor your student's community service at 8th grade graduation.
Saints Mary and Mathias Catholic School meets your student wherever they are and encourages him or her to be the best version of themselves. At the same time, we encourage them to develop personal independence and retain respect and kindness for others. The SsMMCS program strives to prepare students for the social and academic challenges that she or he will encounter on their journey through high school and young adulthood. We are honored to be trusted with this important responsibility.
