We have one Junior Kindergarten class. The maximum number of students in this class is 20. There are multiple reasons to consider the Junior Kindergarten (JrK) option for your 5-year old, or 4-year old who turns 5 between September 16 and December 31st. However, students who are 4-years old must first enroll in our 4-year old program, after which an assessment will be completed to determine his or her eligibility for JrK.
The primary purpose of the JrK class is to give Kindergarten eligible students an additional year to grow socially and/or emotionally, as well as academically. Just because a child is old enough and able to do Kindergarten academic work, that does not mean that entering Kindergarten is the best fit for the child, at his or her current level of social or emotional maturity.
We believe that giving parents a choice and giving a child the time he or she needs to grow in all aspects of her or his development leads to multiple benefits, including greater school success, increased confidence, and a better overall school experience.
